Cooking Fever Game Review

Fast food worker simulators have become popular suddenly; there seems to be nothing interesting in standing behind a kitchen table and serving dishes to clients. Is there anything to build a fun game on? Yes, and these simulators have become extremely popular.

When playing Cooking Fever, you try walking in a cook’s shoes and making a restaurant career. First you work hard to cook the dishes and serve them to the clients; then you open your own business and diversify your fast food empire, but it still takes a bit of your personal intrusion from the inside.

Cooking Fever app is a classical take on this idea. The popularity of the game is impressive; 50 million downloads via Google Play, let alone those who decided to download Cooking Fever APK elsewhere or iOS users.

Graphics 8/10

The animation style is rather simple and too 2D, but the game is, in fact, static; you only stand at your table and watch customers come and go, so there’s nothing lost. What really matters is quick access to your working space and details of products and your table equipment. And here it’s quite OK.
The scene of the game is detailed enough, the ingredients are recognizable, the text is clean and readable, so no problem is caused by graphical imperfectness. The game doesn’t pretend to be photographically realistic, and it doesn’t have to.

Android users enjoy the same version of the game on phones and tablets, while Apple device owners always have a specialized version, whether they play on iPhone or on iPad.

It’s worth mentioning that the game is localized for many countries into popular languages, mostly European.

Gameplay 10/10

Oh, cooking and serving can be sheer fun, when you pay it less than a working day, and your feet don’t have to bring your body around. Each stage starts at a new place; you get familiar with the dishes you serve, the equipment and ingredients you use, and the guests’ tastes. Any level contains a task, a daily earning you need to reach to get through.

When a customer makes his/her order, you must serve the ordered dishes before the guest runs out of patience and leaves. But if you’re quick enough to satisfy his wish, the guest will reward you with generous tips. The more money you get from any order, the easier it is to fulfill the task.

Like in real life, you should watch your working space all the time. As meat or sausages get burnt, you lose money, and it takes extra time to throw them into the tray, so avoid that! On the contrary, heaters can keep your fried dishes warm, so you can serve them to guests almost immediately.

The kitchen equipment is your responsibility. You upgrade your dishes, trays, pans and cola machines, so it gets easier and safer to work. The ingredients can also be upgraded; higher class food costs more and brings you more money. When guests number is limited, sometimes the only way to reach your daily minimum is increasing the order price.

You’re as well responsible for the restaurant environment. Purchasing tables, TV sets, flowers and other interior details helps you to keep guests inside, attract more of them and encourage them to wait a little longer until they’re good with their dishes.

There are always small nuances you need to remember. When a guest who has ordered several dishes is getting impatient, you can save a couple of seconds by serving one of the dishes ordered. Watch the indicator near a customer to estimate the time you have.

Each time you pass a stage, you may open a new restaurant that starts a new chapter in your success story. Like any chapter, it’s written from the beginning. Even as a successful business person already, you are still involved in the process, until it gets automatized and you can jump to the next object that requires your personal attention. New ingredients and dishes, goods like T-shirts or soccer balls, national specific cuisine and all the stuff is to be mastered at each new stage.

The game is basically free. And you can feel free to have a perfect result until you’re through the first stage. But as you purchase a football pub in Barcelona or an oriental restaurant, you’ll need more gems to make necessary upgrades, and this feels like you’re forced to pay to advance. Gems are also necessary to avoid long waiting for your upgrades to complete.

Controls 10/10

The gameplay is totally touch- and drag-based, the movements are understood by pure intuition. When you need to fry a sausage or a ham, you need to drag it onto the pan or to tap it. The same is with dishes and trays you need to drad your foods upon.

When the gaming process takes all of your attention, it’s no time for exotic controlling methods, so the simpler, the better.

Replay Value 6/10

Sometimes you’ll have to replay some previous levels when you run out of coins. Though it helps you to get extra coins (not diamonds, alas), it’s almost no fun. Yes, you can see how the upgrades you have purchased affect your efficiency. But in fact, there’s too little to replay the same levels again.

On the other side, when you try to play new levels on stage two (and further), you may soon find out it requires hard donations or incredibly hardcore attention to get all the stars. So you’d really rather replay those old levels and convert your coins to diamonds in the inner casino, with a little luck.

The Bottom Line

Though this game sometimes annoys with its donation greed, in general it’s a great exciting restaurant simulator, where you can be both a cook and a manager. You can get through the first stage of 40 levels in a day, but then it gets much harder, and the game swallows you like an olive.
