Such open world survival games like Crashlands have been a trend for a while, and you may think that nothing has the power to surprise you anymore. But this game is exceedingly compelling and entertaining. It’s chock-full with interesting features, items, weapons, armor, and quests.
Crashlands is an adventure RPG with lots of exploration and crafting. In this game, you become Flux Dabes — a girl in a purple space suit and a yellow face mask. She is space truckin’ round the stars. Everything is alright until Hewgodooko — an evil alien — breaks your ship looking for useful technologies. You crash land on an unexplored alien planet Woanope, where you have to fight, craft, complete quests, defeat bosses, and, most importantly, survive.
There is a cloud syncing service for your game saves. You just have to register or log in with a BscotchID. It’s free.
The graphics are superior for a game of this genre. Crashlands offers you the cartoonish aesthetics with cosmic monsters and high-quality sound effects. They fit in ideally with the setting and gameplay.
Not only the main character is well-rendered. All your opponents come with natural movement animations, too. The environments are rich in resources and lifeforms. Everything is detailed and polished. You’ll notice that from the very beginning of the game.
Moreover, you can see the time on the bottom right of your screen in Crashlands. Why do you need that? It’s a fantastic feature which allows you to enjoy the dynamic lighting. That means the game changes depending on what time it is while you’re playing.
The animations are sleek and agile, so you won’t experience any lags or glitches. All of that combined with atmospheric music creates a good impression and causes the desire to play again and find out more. You will be living the dream of harvesting, creating items, and attacking the monsters.
After you start the game, you have a basic workstation and a possibility to create the essential tools. One of the coolest things is that you won’t be bored by inventory management. You won’t have to think what to throw away because you can take with you as much stuff as you like. It sorts itself and is available when you are near a crafting station. Indeed, a perfect solution.
When you create a tool, it fits right into your suit, and you won’t have to switch while you’re out gathering. With these tools, you can tap on the resources to deconstruct them and get more materials like wood, skin and bones, rocks, and so on. You’ll need workstations for all the materials you collect, so don’t hesitate to build them.
There’s an element of surprise in Crashlands because every weapon or piece of armor you create can be both handy or useless. You’ll get different results all the time, so keep crafting and raise your chances to survive.
You’ll have to fight with monsters. Large ones sometimes drop the eggs, which you can hatch. When you do that, you obtain a pet following you around to aid in battle. Otherwise, you may harvest items from them. Try to make them as powerful as you can.
You can also try various quests so that your actions don’t become repetitive and boring. Don’t miss such opportunities and complete the quests to get huge rewards.
Creating your house will be exciting. To do that tap the Build Mode button and start “fingerpainting.” Use the materials and furnish your place the way you like.
The controls are user-friendly and work fine. To start moving, tap in the direction you want to reach. Tap on any object, and Flux will perform the needed action automatically.
At the bottom of the screen, you’ll find a menu where you may put items you need to access quickly, for example, potions or bombs. The map, status screen, and quest log are also right at your fingertips.
Crafting has never been easier. Just collect the right materials and tap on what you need to craft. The construction appears in a detached interface that you can put up by pressing a button. There you can choose the item or material you want to use, and tap where you have to place it. If you want to change your decision, touch it one more time to put it in the right place.
When you need a specific item but lack materials, don’t fall into despair. Press the button to track those materials and see them displayed on the side of the play area.

At the beginning, you get some instructions, and then you are left to experiment on the unbelievable large map. The developers say that you can finish Crashlands in 60+ hours. I’ve spent a couple of weeks exploring everything I could. Maybe you won’t replay the game right after you finish it, but the replay value is pretty high due to the possibilities and crafting within the game.
Crashlands won’t bother you with in-app purchases and ads. You’ll have to pay only once — when you download the game. It doesn’t cost much and is worth the money.
You should try this game even if you aren’t a fan of crafting RPGs. There are tons of content to enjoy. It’s impossible not to stay excited about Crashlands. The game is well-designed down to the last detail and looks awesome. It will keep you intrigued for a long time, I guarantee it.
